what are some good lens companys need lenses for nikon d60 slr?

Wednesday Feb 24, 2010

are tamron or sigma lenses any good?

Okay, but usually you can find a good used Nikon lens for about the same cost as a generic lens. If you have to go with a generic, look at Tokina … But you may find that the slight difference in cost between generic and the real OEM lenses is marginal.

First Digital SLR Camera – Canon Xsi or Nikon D60 ?

Wednesday Feb 24, 2010

We are looking for a camera that’s easy to use that gives us more options to take family pictures, etc

For family and everyday use, the Nikon is more appropriate. For sports and movement and excitement, Canon is most likely to preform better. I recommend Nikon in your case.

The D60 is outdated tehnology and has been discontinued. Its replacement is the D3000 or D5000.
Like the D60, the two newer cameras don’t have a focus motor in the camera body so you must buy AF-S lenses if you want auto focus.

The higher price of the D5000 is due to its Live View and HD Movie Mode.

Here are some sites that will help you learn how to start making high quality pictures:

Always remember this: "It isn’t the camera its the photographer". And this: "Pictures are not taken, they are made." Ansel Adams.

To make high quality pictures requires knowledge of light, composition, exposure and depth of field and then practice using that knowledge until you know how to make the picture you want to make. Good photography requires thinking and thinking requires time. Anyone who suggests going out and just shooting and shooting and shooting is telling you how to take snapshots, not how to make a picture.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/drifter45h/3991210245/ I certainly didn’t just point the camera and release the shutter for this picture. My camera was on a tripod (I consider a tripod mandatory for landscape photography) and before I even thought about my composition I picked up 3 cigarette butts, a discarded tissue and a plastic bottle. I started out more to the right of the bench and farther back. Didn’t like how it looked in the viewfinder. Tried a couple more compositions and finally chose this one. I used my knowledge of how to achieve maximum depth of field with the lens I was using to make sure all was in focus. 21mm lens at f16, "focused" at 6′-0”, Minolta XE-7 35mm film camera loaded with Kodak Ektar 100.

Nikon D60?

Im thinking about upgrading to a digital slr camera. Currently I have a point and shoot Kodak, but have played around with my brothers cannon rebel and like it.I have researched the Nikon D60 and think that its the one i want. the one thing that I heard on one of the reviews is that the camera does not have an auto focus function. is this true and if it is how hard is it to manually focus a camera?

The camera DOES have an autofocus function. IF you don’t have a drawer full of older Nikon lenses, this will not be an issue for you. Besides, manual focus is not very difficult anyway.

I hate to see people slam the camera because it can’t autofocus with older Nikon lenses. It is true that there is a "slight problem" with older Nikon lenses not autofocusing on the D40, but if you do not own a bag full of older lenses, it is not going to be a problem. It is barely a problem anyhow. If you check www.nikonusa.com for "AF-S" lenses, which are ALL 100% compatible with the D40, you will find 28 lenses, including 13 "VR" (vibration Reduction) lenses and one true macro lens with "VR". There are another 25-plus lenses in the current catalog that provide all functions except autofocus as well as many (possibly dozens) "out of print" lenses that will work just as well. In addition, although these lens will not autofocus, most of them will still give focus confirmation. From the D40 manual: "If the lens has a maximum aperture of f/5.6 of faster, the viewfinder focus indicator can be used to confirm whether the portion of the subject in the selected focus area is in focus. After positioning the subject in the active focus area, press the shutter release button halfway and rotate the lens focusing ring until the in-focus indicator is displayed." Whats the difference between Nikon d40,d60,d90 etc cameras?

Wednesday Feb 24, 2010

and which one should i get?
I wanna start photograpy and I’m a little new to this

Price, performance and features.

You should get the one that closest matches your needs and your hand. Here is a comparison of the Nikons you have mentioned and some more.

Essentially DSLR cameras come in about 3 levels: entry, prosumer, and professional. Examples: entry – D5000, prosumer – D90, professional – D3X

As a beginner, I suggest the D5000.
