Before you buy this, take a careful look at the visual back on your telescope. I’ve never seen a Celestron 4SE up close, but all of Orion’s Maksutov-Cassegrains come with standard T-threads already on the visual back. With these, all you need to do is screw on a T-adapter, and you’re in business.

Do I really need the VR feature in a 55-200mm lens?
Posted by admin | Under Nikon D60 Accessories Monday Aug 16, 2010I’m getting a Nikon D60 with the 18–55 VR and the 55–200, either with or without VR. I could save a good amount of cash if I get the one WITHOUT. Which would you recommend–and why, please?
BTW, any other insight you could provide on D60, lenses or practical accessories I would really need or could really use as opposed to stuff that is just bells and whistles and I could do without, would be greatly appreciated.
I’m very familiar and comfortable with film SLRs, adjusting speed, aperture, focus, etc. I know a lot of basics of shooting, but I’m not a pro.
My goal? Excellent snapshots with an occasional really great photograph that I very frequently take my time setting up to try and capture.
Mostly travel stuff, with much of it in the woods. And, a good amount of the typical family shots. Thanks so much.
If you have been using non-VR lenses for a while, you will NOT need a VR lens. While VR lenses are a nice feature when shooting editorial work when a flash may not be advisable, it is not necessary if you already have the skills necessary to hand hold shots taken low light situations.
I have 12 lenses and only the 18-200 mm is VR and I use it mostly for shooting press assignments.

Yes, it’s a great deal. The camera and the 2 lenses by themselves are easily worth that much. However, if vibration reduction is important to you, then you should note that the 55-200mm lens in that package does not have VR. However, it shouldn’t be a problem for most.
I love my Nikon D60, it’s a great camera.

You will enjoy the camera immensely, it is a great entry level dSLR. One problem is that the d60 does not have built in autofocus motors in the camera, it’s built into the lens itself. This means that if you want to use some older Nikon lenses that aren’t AF-S, it may be possible, however you will have to shoot in manual mode. The two lenses in that bundle are AF-S, so you will not have a problem using autofocus with them if you wish.
