Do film cameras take better pictures than Digital?

Wednesday Mar 17, 2010

My sister had a film camera, and it took AMAZING pictures, (it was a nikon)

then she got a digital Nikon d60 and it doesn’t seem to take pictures as well as the film,

Is it just my sister not knowing how to use the digital camera, or does taking pictures with the film camera work better?

It depends on the type of film, and how many megapixels the camera is.

35mm = 10mp
6×4.5cm = 31mp
4×5 = 150mp
8×10 = 600mp

And it also depends on the film speed as well – a lower speed film will produce much higher quality images.

I have always liked how the colors come out using film much better than digital as well, and I use film professionally, although I own both types.

Yes, currently film cameras take better photos than digital cameras.

Nikon D60 Is It, Does it, was it ?

Wednesday Mar 10, 2010

I am thinking of buying a Nikon D60 digital camera. It will be my first proper digital camera, I have a silly £70 one that fits in the hand but I would really like to purchase an idiot proof camera that is easy use and has BnW on it as I love this medium. Are the instructions fairly straight forward. I am 44 but more creative than left brained, my x wife used to be the one that put Ikea together !!!! if there are any budding Photographers out there who can help please let me know, oh yes is it worth the money £380 seems to be the cheapest with lens…..

I would definitely say that the D60 will not be idiot proof, you will be disappointed with the results of this great camera unless you’re able to operate it properly. A D60 like any other SLR will only really perform better than a Point and shoot when you understand how to make the most of the freedom in exposure it allows you.

So I would recommend a large sensor point and shoot, perhaps a Fujifilm F70EXR which has a nice large trick sensor with EXR technology that should automatically compensate for difficult lighting situations.

Nikon D60 – Smallest Dslr Camera

Monday Mar 8, 2010

Click to add a Nikon D60 primitive into the camera view on
top of the porch, and then set its other corner and click again.
The primitives will snap to the locators you’ve set up. If you need to place the
Nikon D60 primitive in a spot where you don’t have any points, Nikon D60 ImageModeler will snap to the
corresponding axis. This is why calibrating the images and defining the worldspace are
important. If you need, you can add a marker from within the Nikon D60 Modeling tab. Just select
the icon at the top of the interface, and add a marker to help you align primitive
shapes.
Note: You need only three Nikon D60 points to align and position a primitive.
Your plane might be inverted after you apply it.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/800670825-USE/Nikon_25438_D60_SLR_Digital_Camera.html

if so / not , why? :D Thanks!

Yes, I have used B&H many times and know others who buy from them.

Below I added 3 links, 2 of them are to resellerrating.com where I provided a homepage link to their site and the other to ratings page for B&H Photo. The 3rd link is photo.net which will provide you a connection to a online photo community.

Good luck.

Nikon D60 SLR Digital Camera?

Wednesday Feb 24, 2010

Hi!

I want to start taking high quality picture’s and i’m wondering is this the right camera for me?

Nikon D60 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-55mm VR Lens & 70-300mm VR Lens
10.2 Megapixels 2.5" LCD Monitor Integrated Dust Reduction System ISO 1600 Sensitivity 3 fps Burst 8 Digital Vari-Program Modes Built-in Speedlight Stop-Motion Video In-Camera Image Editing & RAW Processing PictBridge Direct Printing

The D60 is outdated tehnology and has been discontinued. Its replacement is the D3000 or D5000.
Like the D60, the two newer cameras don’t have a focus motor in the camera body so you must buy AF-S lenses if you want auto focus.

The higher price of the D5000 is due to its Live View and HD Movie Mode.

Here are some sites that will help you learn how to start making high quality pictures:

http://www.digital-photography-school.com

http://www.illustratedphotography.com/photography-tips/basic

http://www.cambridgeincolor.com

http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html

Always remember this: "It isn’t the camera its the photographer". And this: "Pictures are not taken, they are made." Ansel Adams.

To make high quality pictures requires knowledge of light, composition, exposure and depth of field and then practice using that knowledge until you know how to make the picture you want to make. Good photography requires thinking and thinking requires time. Anyone who suggests going out and just shooting and shooting and shooting is telling you how to take snapshots, not how to make a picture.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/drifter45h/3991210245/ I certainly didn’t just point the camera and release the shutter for this picture. My camera was on a tripod (I consider a tripod mandatory for landscape photography) and before I even thought about my composition I picked up 3 cigarette butts, a discarded tissue and a plastic bottle. I started out more to the right of the bench and farther back. Didn’t like how it looked in the viewfinder. Tried a couple more compositions and finally chose this one. I used my knowledge of how to achieve maximum depth of field with the lens I was using to make sure all was in focus. 21mm lens at f16, "focused" at 6′-0”, Minolta XE-7 35mm film camera loaded with Kodak Ektar 100.
