this camera is …
this camera is actually a tiny bit smaller than the d40. o and on the question of the VR lens. having the motor inside the lens is actually better than in the body because when its in the lens u can see the actual stabilization through the viewfinder :)

Warranty should cover it. Ask the manufacturer, or at the store where you purchased it.

i ended up getting …
i ended up getting the 450d and am loving it. i toured a good handful of camera shops before i did though, and they all recommended the canon over the nikon. more autofocus points, more megapixels, faster, and japanese crafting of the lenses (as opposed to nikon’s chinese crafting)

Hey, can anyone of you help me? when i bought my nikon d60 i realised there were some scratches when i looked through the viewfinder, and it appears that the scractches are from the focusing lens inside the cameras body right above the mirror. does normal warranty cover it? or must i just get a new focusing lens? i just got my nikon d60 today :(

We’ve heard no word from Nikon but a replacement is due and I’d be surprised if they didn’t announce it next month at Photokina. The price would need to be similar.

live view is fun to …
live view is fun to use for some (I personally never liked it but to each his own) however, you should always learn proper body positioning when shooting. You don’t see professional photographers holding their camera away from their eyes for a reason, unless using a tripod and a remote, of course. Try this camera out. You’ll appreciate it. The price isn’t much more from some non SLR’s and you’ll learn some cool tricks for professional quality photo taking.

ah ok thanks. I have an Olympus which has sensor IS.

WhatDigitalCamera:

How long have you …
How long have you got?
There’s pros and cons on both sides. With sensor-based any lens becomes stabilised, saving money, but lens based IS enables stabiisation to be optimised for the characteristics of the specific lens, but it makes the lenses more expensive. Also you can see the effect in the viewfinder, unlike with sensor IS (unless you use LiveView).
Our tests indicate that lens IS is marginally more effective.
