AFAIK you can get …
AFAIK you can get wild colors with the canon by using +4 saturation settings.

In my opinion, …
In my opinion, Nikon render colors in a vivid kind of thing. Out of the box, pictures taken by (i think) any Nikon DSLR, colors pops out, the reds, the greens, the blues are bright and adds to the feeling of a very vivid photo.

As for canon, the colors are natural. It is like what your eyes can see, the canon renders the colors as what your very own eye saw. (depends on the lens of course).

The Nikon-made …
The Nikon-made lenses are extremely expensive, but there some good price\quality lenses to D60 over there, like Nikon 35mm f/1.8. So you must also buy a flash, like Nikon SB-600. It costs less than 200$ on Ebay – that’s a good deal.

So that’s decigion of your “indoor-problem” – middle-class lense (with filters, of course) and middle-class flash.

You must know, that …
You must know, that the main thing in your camera is lence, which influences to the pictures much more than body. Of course, standart 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 is awful.
Canon-kit doesn’t make real better indoor photos in this segment.
So first time you have to buy a good lence with aperture at least 2.8. If you need a zoom, you could look a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. It’s very good lence, but you must test it very attentively, especially if it was made not in Japan. You don’t need to buy 1000$+ lence!

That’s what I was thinking…I’m like, “Well of course the 450D is better than the D60. They’re not even at the same level!”

i just bought my …
i just bought my first dSLR. it’s the EOS 450D. this was after months of reading the reviews of both (d60 and 450d) and their next higher end models, i’d even downloaded manuals of both and read them. i’d say, you cannot compare d60 to 450d, they’re not on the same level. 450d to D80 or even the D90 i think. i love the d60 handling and body, to me it’s more “sexier” than the 450d, BUT i love the 450d’s AEB, WB bracketing, direct access button (you can even program the “SET” button).

Sounds like you …
Sounds like you know a lot.:) What is the thinking–is it “purist” or more pro-styled sort of–to have no live-view, there in back on the screen? Realise that I HAVE a D-60 so it was a sweet gift yesterday, so I do not wish for someone to cut it down too, too much. By the way, I like a “real camera” with weight, and no one talks about that aspect–a real camera with real metal. I get annoyed at these dismissive statements about light weight. I never wanted a toy camera. But: why no live view??
